In couples therapy, Tom utilizes a variety of techniques depending on how you are uniquely struggling. We consider the strengths of each person and the relationship as we explore communication, differences in family history and the wounds that have been created in the relationship. Tom leads couples in exploring more effective and fulfilling communication, emotional connection, conflict and parenting issues, mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and sexual difficulties.
Tom works with individuals in numerous areas such as life planning, spiritual issues, self-esteem, sexual abuse and trauma, physical and emotional abuse, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive issues, sexuality, anger, and grief and loss.
Tom Horst is trained in systemic therapy which means he is trained to observe and spot styles of communicating and interacting that often result in the family feeling disconnected and wounded. Many families get stuck in dysfunctional ways of interacting and need help getting "unstuck." Tom’s training and therapy techniques can help families understand each other better, learn to listen to each other, open lines of communication and help to facilitate greater connection. Tom has experience in leading families together in reconciling with and forgiving each other where there has been intergenerational conflict.
